October 11, 2012- Four industry veterans have joined Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman, company owner Adam Weitsman announced today.
“We continue to search for the best people in the scrap industry,” Weitsman said.
Joining the company will be Brian Henderson, who takes the post of assistant port manager of Ben Weitsman of Albany; Kevin Freehill, who is the new general manager of Ben Weitsman of Liberty; Sergio Amorim, hired as the new logistics manager for Ben Weitsman of Albany; and Luis Ruiz, who takes the spot of nonferrous production manager of Upstate Shredding and all 10 Ben Weitsman locations throughout New York and Pennsylvania.
Ruiz, the new nonferrous production manager for Upstate Shredding – Ben Weitsman in Owego, has worked in the scrap industry since 1985. He most recently worked for Sims Metal Management in Newark, N.J., where he worked for 11 years in positions of increasing responsibility, culminating as the foreman/supervisor of nonferrous metals, a post he held for seven years.
Henderson, of Jersey City, N.J., will serve as the new assistant manager of the Albany facility. Since 2009, he has worked in positions of ever increasing responsibility for Sims Metal Management locations in Newark and Jersey City. Most recently he worked as the quality superintendent for Sims’ Claremont Terminal in Jersey City, overseeing inbound scrap quality at one of the world’s largest metal recycling facilities. He also held the position of plant supervisor of Sims’ Hawkins Street facility in Newark and as a dispatcher in the company’s logistics division. He has worked in the scrap metal industry since 2007.
Freehill, who is local to the Liberty, N.Y., area, is the new general manager for Ben Weitsman of Liberty. He is leaving the position of yard manager for Sims’ Liberty (Ferndale) N.Y. facility. He started in the scrap industry in 2006, working for Weinert Recycling in positions of increasing responsibility, beginning as a truck driver and finally being promoted to yard supervisor and then yard manager; he was retained by Sims when it acquired Weinert in 2008.
Sergio Amorim is the new logistics manager Ben Weitsman of Albany. He is also leaving Sims Metal Management’s Newark operation; he had worked for the company for seven years as a scale clerk and dispatcher.
With its aggressive growth strategy and quickly expanding capacity, Upstate Shredding – Ben Weitsman was recently recognized as an AMM finalist for scrap company of the year (both public and private). The company expects to process 1 million tons of ferrous and 200 million pounds of nonferrous scrap by 2014.
